So my attempt at hamburger helper didn’t actually taste anything like hamburger helper but it was however freakin delicious. Everyone, toddler included had seconds. Enjoy!
Pasta of your choice. Cooked al dente
1 Tbsp. coconut oil
2 cups mince of choice – We used Gardien but I’ll do a quick review below. TVP works just as well.
3 Tbsp. cornstarch- I used tempura mix, its the same things but with a little flavour
3 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 cup Nutritional yeast
1 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 cups vegan broth
1 1/2 cups milk of choice
1/4 tsp. cumin
1-2 chillis (lightly dried works best)
1 packet of daiya cheese (optional)
Cooks mince in the oil. We used gardien because I love all their other products I have tried. Don’t waste your money. It is basically TVP with some seasoning.
Add all the spices to the cornstarch. Once combined add to cooked mince. Then add the broth. Stir for a few minutes till it starts to thicken. Add milk and stir till combined. let simmer until thickened.
I found I needed more cornstarch. It will thicken on cooling but I am an impatient person.
Add noodles and enjoy!
Now if you have cheese like we did put the noodle mix into your baking pan and place cheese on top. Cook till cheese is browning. Hack: If you are also impatient you can put this under your grill. It will brown the cheese faster. The noodles are already cooked so no real reason to bake. 🙂
